Stheno is a gorgon, and quite an old one at that. She's seen empires rise and fall, she's been at the top, she's been at the bottom, and many, many people have been turned into statues under her paralyzing gaze. Nowadays, though, she's a gardener who owns a nursery right outside of town. How domestic!

Never quite finding herself perturbed by her own immortality, Stheno is happy to live a somewhat quiet life, though, of course, that doesn't mean the people around her keep things so quiet. Often she's considered to be quite wise and sensible, direct and clear, and though she keeps up with the times best she can, she does sometimes miss when writing things down on stone tablets was a big thing. It can get really annoying trying to find a note you wrote yourself a century ago only to realize that it has practically disintegrated in that time.

The snakes that make up Stheno's "hair" are platyceps najadum, more commonly known as dahl's whip snakes, slender whip snakes, or zagros whip snakes.
